To sit alongside the launch of our first publication NOSH, a community cook book, we've teamed up with local craftsman Ewen, founder of Slow Made Goods, to create a bespoke stand for our recipe cards.
Designing waste out of products and recycling or repurposing material has been at the heart of Ewens making process and these stands epitomise this. They are handcrafted using offcuts from projects and include some unusual locally sourced wood.
The stands have been crafted with the perfect angle, allowing your recipe card to be easily read when displayed proudly on your kitchen worktop. Due to the nature of the material, each handcrafted stand will differ in appearance, showcasing the true beauty of the wood.

A bit about the Wood
Bog Oak
Sourced from a Lincolnshire reservoir, bog oak is often unearthed after being buried for hundreds or sometimes thousands of years. The low oxygen levels in the bog protect the wood from natural decay and the acid levels contained in the peat react with tannins in the wood gradually forming the distinct dark brown/black appearance.

Spalted Beech
Sourced locally in Norwich. Spalting describes the process by which certain fungi grow on dead or fallen trees leaving distinguished patterns across the surface of the wood. The process slowly evolves over several years to reach the ideal stage to cut and season the timber.

Pippy Burr London Plane
Careful inspection of the surface reveals a multitude of characteristics that make this wood revered. The small clusters of knotted patterns peppering the surface are referred to as pippy burr. Another striking feature of London plane are the wide and twisting medullary rays, often iridescent structures that grow perpendicular to the grain which surface in decorative flecks.

English Oak
Sourced locally in Norwich. Supporting more life than any other native tree species in the UK, the English oak has a distinct warm hue and is the national symbol of strength. This particular example was sourced within 30 metres of the makers workshop.
